This year marks Sydney Sweeney‘s first-ever appearance at the Met Gala, aka the biggest night in fashion. So it comes as no surprise that the Euphoria star showed up and showed out — and she did not disappointed. The 2022 Met Gala theme is a continuation of last year’s exhibition, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” only this time, it focuses on the “Gilded Glamor” of American fashion throughout history. And each star interpreted the theme in their own way. She wore a bright white Tory Burch gown with a corseted detail on her torso, totally fit for a princess.
Her hairstylist for the coveted fashion event, Bobby Elliotexclusively dished all the details about Sydney’s “gritty and tough” tresses for the occasion with Seventeen. He explained his foolproof styling techniques, recommended his favorite products to achieve a look that’ll last all night long, and even let us in on the magic behind his and Sydney’s Met Gala glam process.
“We’ve been sending each other ideas and prepping for weeks. We had a fitting and we immediately knew what the look was going to be,” Bobby tells Seventeen. “Sydney’s Tory Burch gown is very much opulent and in-theme. It’s soft and feminine. We wanted to contrast the gown and do something a little gritty, but still young and effortless.”
To create the look, Bobby prepped Sydney’s hair using styling products from John Frieda Hair Care and executed the effortless waves with tools from ghd. He gave us a step-by-step breakdown of how to achieve her Met Gala hairstyle.
To begin, Bobby created a center part on Sydney’s freshly washed hair as the foundation for the look before prepping her hair with a pump of John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum. He followed it with spritzes of the nourishing leave-in conditioner and then applied a texturizing mousse at the root of her hair before roughly drying it with ghd’s Helio Professional Hair Dryer and a 1.1″ round barrel brush.
“The Frizz Ease Original Serum was an amazing base for a beautiful shine. It’s suitable for all textures! It gives hydration and shine,” Bobby dished.
Bobby said he created a shape around Sydney’s face to create a bend, which framed her bone structure. “An easy way to get Sydney’s hair at home is to create bends in the hair. The look is barely-there waves, so you want to use an iron and pull and stretch the curl to achieve that look,” he explains.
To lock in the style, Bobby misted hairspray throughout her signature blonde hair and then massaged his hands into her roots and ends to give her hair an effortless and undone texture. Lastly, he smoothed down any flyaways with the ghd oval dressing brush.
Sydney has become one of our favorite actors to grace our screens thanks to her standout roles on Euphoria and The White Lotusbut this is only her first Met Gala and Bobby helped nail her Gilded Glamor look effortlessly.
